Can Kids Use CBD Oil Safely? - NanoCraft

The use of CBD oil has quickly been gaining steam among Americans for good reason. It's been associated with alleviating several uncomfortable and painful symptoms of different medical issues. Even athletes are starting to incorporate CBD oil products into their training and fitness regimens in order to speed up recovery and even improve performance.

But is it Safe For Kids?

The short answer is, yes, hemp-derived CBD is safe for kids.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a cannabinoid found in cannabis and hemp plants. With a decrease in the stigma of cannabis and the amazing benefits that it can provide the mind and body, more clinical research continues to be done on CBD — its effects as well as its safety.

Research has shown CBD to have a number of incredible benefits for the body including the following:

  • Reducing chronic pain and inflammation
  • Increasing mental clarity
  • Alleviating anxiety
  • Reducing the frequency and severity of seizures
  • Protecting the brain
  • Fighting cancer
  • Alleviating nausea
  • Lowering the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  • Helping to maintain proper weight
  • Managing appetite
  • Treating sleep issues

But in addition to helping adults with their symptoms, CBD products have also been shown to help children cope with their medical issues.

How CBD Can Alleviate Medical Symptoms in Children

Scientific research has shown that there are a number of ailments that can be effectively treated in children through using CBD hemp oil.

Seizures

Probably one of the best-known ailments that CBD oil has been shown to alleviate are seizure disorders. One of the first known cases where hemp oil was proven to work is with a little girl named, Charlotte Figi. At the tender age of three months, Charlotte suffered her first seizure as a result of Dravet Syndrome.

Her seizures only became worse as she got older. By the time she was two years old, Charlotte was displaying Autistic-type behavior and suffering continued cognitive decline. By the time she turned three years old, Charlotte was suffering as many as 300 grand mal seizures every week — the effects of which left her unable to walk or talk or even eat.

Charlotte's parents learned of the Stanley Brothers who were producing a strain of cannabis that was low in THC and high in CBD. Shortly after taking CBD oil, Charlotte was able to walk and talk again, and her seizures had been drastically reduced in both frequency and severity.

From there, the number of epileptic children who have benefited from CBD has grown and continues to grow with no ill side effects being shown. In fact, children with some form of seizure-related disorder tend to suffer more side effects through the use of traditional pharmaceutical medication than they do when using CBD oil.

Anxiety

Adults are not the only ones who can suffer from anxiety. More and more children are suffering from anxiety as well. In fact, as much as 5% of children between the ages of 3 to 17 years suffer from anxiety and depression, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

And while children have access to medication to help deal with their anxiety, they may also find the effects of CBD oil very beneficial. Studies have documented CBD oil as an effective treatment for anxiety and a safe alternative to pharmaceutical medications. As such, CBD oil is becoming an increasingly popular treatment for anxiety.

Sleep Disorders

Cannabidiol oil has been documented as being helpful in treating sleep disorders. Between 50 to 70 million adults suffer from a sleep disorder, but these disorders can also afflict children, particularly when brought about by anxiety.

Studies have shown that CBD oil can be highly effective at treating sleep disorders in children and help them get the rest they need. There are even some CBD capsules that contain melatonin to help facilitate sleep.

ADD and ADHD

While clinical studies are still required, it's been suggested that CBD oil can be used to treat ADD and ADHD. According to the National Institute of Health, a big factor associated with the onset of ADD and ADHD is a lack of dopamine. Some studies have scientifically shown that CBD can naturally stimulate the production of dopamine, thereby suggesting that CBD may be effective at alleviating the symptoms of ADD and ADHD.

Is CBD Safe For Kids?

We know that CBD has been linked to the alleviation of a number of symptoms among children suffering from various ailments, but regardless of how much research has been done on CBD, is it safe when used on children?

The answer is yes. There is no harm in taking CBD, and it's been found to be safe for children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), no adverse health risks have been found among children using CBD. No evidence of health issues has been found to be associated with the use of CBD oil. Parents can safely administer CBD oil to their children to reap the benefits of this cannabinoid without worrying about any potential negative effects.

There are also other ways to administer CBD from CBD topicals, CBD water, and CBD powders which allows for many different ways to find relief.
